Going Green

We believe that engaging in a meaningful way with staff, vendors, customers, and community is a crucial aspect of a successful business. We are active in our local community - where we live and work - and we support the wider world around us with community outreach programs and sustainability initiatives.

Sustainability

CEI recognizes the importance of taking care of the environment. As a family-focused workplace, we strongly desire a healthy planet for our children and yours. To that end, we are increasing our green, decreasing our footprint, and continuing to seek out the best way to serve our clients and the planet we all share.

Energy

Our most visible initiative is our solar project. In the summer and fall of 2012, we installed a 27 kilowatt solar canopy over our parking lot. This will enable us to sustainably source an average of 60% of our power. Click here for more information about our array and the power it produces.

We also replaced our exterior and interior hallway illumination with LED lights to increase our energy efficiency.

Resources

Electronic Documentation

To reduce our paper consumption, we now send most documents electronically unless requested to do otherwise. We appreciate your cooperation in this effort.

Sustainable Sourcing

Our business cards and letterhead are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, carbon neutral paper made with 100% renewable energy.

Reducing, Reusing, & Recycling

A software company naturally burns through a lot of technology. We make use of virtual machines as much as possible, thereby reducing our number of physical machines. Often machines that are no longer suitable for development are still perfectly serviceable home machines. Our employees are given the opportunity to upgrade their home systems with retired CEI tech. We also donate items to local nonprofits.

The materials that are left after all of these avenues have been exhausted are then responsibly disposed of. Blue Springs offers periodic electronics recycling events that enable us to keep old machines and monitors out of landfills.
